9. Joik (Original) - Mab -Vocals, Dumbek, Davul, Riq Joik - is an original composition by Megan Miller. Yoik or juoiggus is a traditional Sami form of song. Each yoik is meant to reflect a person or place. It has traditionally been sung a capella, sometimes accompanied by a drum. It is sometimes set to other instruments. The tonality of yoik is mostly pentatonic but yoikers are at liberty to use any tones they please. Joiks do not rhyme, and have no definite structure. They are typically about any subject of importance to the singer, and vary widely in content. The Sami People (there are other names and spellings including S�mi, Saami and the obsolete Lapp) are an indigenous people of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia, covering a total area in the Nordic countries corresponding to the size of Sweden. The Sami people is one of the largest groups of indigenous peoples in Europe. Their languages are the Sami languages, which are classified as Finno-Ugric Listen to a sample!
